School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability
The University consists of four interdisciplinary academies and the current position is located at the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). Here you get to work in a research and educational environment with a focus on sustainable development and entrepreneurship. The school trains future economists, engineers, environmental scientists and biologists. The school has approximately 120 employees and consists of four departments, the department of Construction and Energy Engineering, the department of Business Studies, the department of Environmental and Biosciences and the department of Engineering and Innovation. FIH offers education at the undergraduate and advanced level, as well as doctoral education in the field of Innovation Sciences. The research is multidisciplinary and often takes place in co-production with other actors. The current position is at the department of Engineering and Innovation.

School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability.

Description

The responsibilities of this role include research, education, and collaboration. The position is closely linked to the Master of Engineering program in Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Design, and Innovation and the Innovation Engineering program, which encompass several courses related to Product Design, Product Development, Innovation, and integrating sustainability in this scope. The role may involve tasks such as teaching, as well as monitoring, developing, and coordinating courses and educational programs.

As an Associate professor, you are expected to be active in research and participate in one of the research groups or programs at Halmstad University, contributing to the development of research in the field. Within the Department there is a strong research group working with surfaces and materials in various contexts, such as production and healthcare. Furthermore, several multidisciplinary research programs integrate design perspectives into interdisciplinary research agendas. 

The department is responsible for managing and strategically developing the innovation arena FabLab Halmstad. This arena has built up a unique creative space available to students, researchers and industrial partners from various fields and disciplines. There are opportunities to develop this concept further, and we see this role as an important resource in such work.

Halmstad University is known for its close collaboration with industry and other societal actors. We encourage staff to work actively with this area in education, research and innovation.

Some administrative duties are also part of the Associate professor position.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as an associate professor in fields other than artistic activities, a candidate must have demonstrated teaching proficiency and have obtained a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills relevant to the subject of the position and the duties involved. (According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance)

In appointing an associate professor, the degree of proficiency required for eligibility should be the primary criterion. The assessment of teaching proficiency must be given the same level of attention as the evaluation of other qualifying conditions mentioned in the first paragraph.

Other criteria considered significant in the appointment of an associate professor at the university include leadership and administrative skills, as well as collaboration with the surrounding community.

Completed training in higher education pedagogy is required for an appointment as an associate professor. Alternatively, the applicant must have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways or commit to undergoing training in higher education pedagogy (see section 1.5).

Qualifications

The applicant should have:

• A Doctoral degree in a field of relevance for product design and development.

It is considered meritorious if the applicant:

• Has excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written
• Possesses university education, work experience, or publications in sustainability related to design and/or product development.
• Has documented experience in using digital tools, prototyping and integrating practical elements in teaching or other professional contexts.
• Has documented  experience, publications, or work on strategic or operational level related to makerspaces or lab environments.
• Is engaged in ongoing research that aligns with one of the University's two focus areas.
• Experience in writing successful project applications, in particular collaborative projects, such as EU-projects or similar.

Written and oral proficiency in Swedish is desirable, however, it is not a requirement for this position.
