School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability
The University consists of four interdisciplinary academies and the current position is located at the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). Here you get to work in a research and educational environment with a focus on sustainable development and entrepreneurship. The school trains future economists, engineers, environmental scientists and biologists. The school has approximately 120 employees and consists of four departments, the department of Construction and Energy Engineering, the department of Business Studies, the department of Environmental and Biosciences and the department of Engineering and Innovation. FIH offers education at the undergraduate and advanced level, as well as doctoral education in the field of Innovation Sciences. The research is multidisciplinary and often takes place in co-production with other actors.

Description
We are seeking a doctoral student in Innovation Sciences with focus on the health technology innovation area, and more specifically with interest in product development, design, medical device regulatory issues and AI-systems. The proposed subject for the project is AI-oriented New Product Development in healthcare industries. More details on the research project focus will be discussed in the planning process with the supervisor group.

In the research program Information driven care (IDC) at Halmstad University, there are several projects working interdisciplinary on research questions around the digital transformation in healthcare. Most projects involve industry and Swedish healthcare. In particular, we work with the technological development, innovation and implementation aspects of information driven care. As a doctoral student, you will work in relation to one or several of these projects.

The doctoral education area is Innovation Sciences, and the employment is within the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability at the department of Engineering & Innovation. There are about 30 staff members in the department, working with both engineering and management issues, for example mechanical engineering, product design and development and innovation management. The school offers a doctoral student environment with about 10-15 doctoral students from different backgrounds and with involvement in different projects in Innovation Sciences.

The working tasks will on average involve 80% research and doctoral studies, and 20% teaching or other institutional work. As a doctoral student, you may for example perform the following work tasks; conduct systematic literature reviews, formulate research questions, work creatively to find solutions to problems, write academic texts, analyze complex issues, collaborate with researchers from other fields, industry and healthcare, discuss your own and other peoples work, take part in course work etc. To succeed as a doctoral student in this project, you need to act professional in your role, and be able to work independently with the guidance of supervisors and other competencies involved in the project.

The employment is initially funded for 2 years, making it possible to achieve a Licentiate degree. To pursue a full PhD degree, the candidate and supervisors are obliged to apply for additional funding.

Qualifications
A university degree at advanced (Master's) level in a relevant field of study, comprising of at least four years of study (240 ECTS credits), whereof at least 60 ECTS credits at advanced (Master's) level (or equivalent). By the start of the enrollment in the PhD program, the candidate must also have completed a degree project (thesis) at advanced (Master's) level, representing at least one term of study (30 ECTS credits).

  • Excellent oral and written communication in English

Meritorious

  • Engineering background
  • Experience or knowledge of the Swedish healthcare system
  • Experience of working with product development or medical device regulatory issues
  • Experience of working with research

Desirable

  • Experience of working with stakeholders from different types of organisations (e.g. industry and healthcare)
  • Interest in research on the processes around health innovation and health technology.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency. That involves for example engagement in the research area, the project and stakeholders. It is of importance to communicate well with people from different fields and organisations.

Salary
Doctoral students are employees of the University and paid a salary according to a uniform salary scale, adjusted in relation to the progress in education.
