The School of Information Technology

Halmstad University consists of four interdisciplinary Schools, and the current position is at the School of Information Technology (ITE). ITE is a multicultural school with around 130 employees from 20 different countries. It is a strong research and education environment focusing on smart technology and its applications. Students and researchers work with everything from AI and information-driven care to autonomous vehicles, social robotics, and digital design. ITE offers education on all levels, from undergraduate to Ph.D. education, plus education for professionals. Research is conducted within aware intelligent systems, smart electronic systems, cyber-physical systems, and digital service innovation. These four areas constitute the four technology areas of ITE. An innovation center for information-driven care called Leap for Life is connected to ITE and a collaboration arena for electronic development, Electronics Centre in Halmstad (ECH).

Description

The appointed person is intended to contribute to the research, educational, and co-production activities of the School of Information Technology (ITE) at Halmstad University. The appointment will be made as a Research Engineer, a temporary full-time position for 11 months. Depending on the future needs within the field, positions, which serves as a continuation of the current position, will be announced to fulfill more long-term goals. 

Electronics Centre in Halmstad (ECH) is a strategic investment that requires sustained coordination. Due to changes in current staffing, we will hire a research engineer to continue the development of the Center. The proposed position will add competence within electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and work to expand industrial connections.

General Duties

The Research Engineer will work with current staff and contribute both to the day-to-day measurement activities and the development of ECH. The work will include performing advanced measurements, maximizing academic and educational use of the Center, and developing existing and promoting new academic and industrial collaborations. The work also includes system development, maintenance, and operation of the equipment for the facility. The Research Engineer will also leverage the Center and the associated network of industrial partners to enhance the connection between student theses and research projects and the current needs of regional and national industrial partners.
A successful applicant can formulate and pursue collaborative research projects with staff and industrial partners at the University for up to 20% of work time.

General Qualifications

The position requires a Master's degree or relevant industrial experience closely related to electronics, electromagnetics, and physics. Expertise and prior experience with high-frequency electronics and radio frequency electromagnetics are highly desirable, as is expertise with measurement and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have strong industry connections and experience from cooperation with industry and businesses at different stages of development. Good knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing (test processes and harmonized EMC standards for various product segments primarily on the European market) is highly desirable. Experience from previous research activities is also considered a merit. The applicant is required to have an excellent ability to express themself in spoken and written English. It is desirable that the applicant has a good ability to express themself in verbal and written Swedish.

Meritorious characteristics

  • In-depth knowledge of the EMC/EMS standards and methods.
  • Understanding customer needs to propose suitable test solutions.
  • Preparing EMC/EMS test system configurations and building the technical setup for the device under test.

Salary
