Högskolan i Halmstad, Akademin för informationsteknologi

Senior lecturer in social robotics, with a focus on behaviour recognition and generation.

Halmstad University is seeking to appoint a full-time senior lecturer, with expertise in social robotics research and teaching. This position offers a unique opportunity for an outstanding researcher to join and work with a team of internationally leading researchers on an innovative interdisciplinary project about intelligent social robot systems.

Research focus
The successful candidate will work on intelligent system tasks related to social robotics, at the interface between human-robot interaction, sensors/computer vision, and pattern recognition, and will both contribute to research/teaching as well as engaging with debates in academic scholarship in relation to this.

Principal duties
The successful candidate will work within a research group focused on multimodal recognition of human behaviours and generation of robot behaviours by intelligent social robot systems in homes. They will benefit from working with a humanoid robot as part of a distributed research consortium that spans four institutions in Sweden: University of Skövde, Örebro University, RISE Viktoria (formerly Viktoria Swedish ICT), and Halmstad University.

The duties will be:

  • To support the role of project leader
  • To liaise with external research partners as appropriate, undertake literature reviews and write (or contribute to writing) publications
  • To assist in the development of new interdisciplinary research proposals
  • To carry out high-quality teaching.

Qualification
This position is suited to applicants with a PhD (and preferably post-doctoral experience) in intelligent systems or an equivalent field, related to designing social robots capable of recognizing human actions and generating clear behaviours. Candidates will also ideally have research experience related to humanoid robotics, affective computing and supporting people's well-being, and prototyping, using a wide range of sensors (e.g. cameras (RGB, thermal, depth), touch, olfaction, brain machine interfaces, etc), tools (e.g., Robot Operating System, OpenCV, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino), and algorithms (e.g., Support Vector Machines). The working language in the project is English, so one requirement for the position is fluent speaking and writing in English.

Salary
The salary is settled by negotiation

Application
Applications should be sent via Halmstad University's recruitment system (see link on this page). The application package shall consist of:
