This permanent full-time position at the School of Information Technology is linked to the Department of Intelligent Systems and Digital Design, a dynamic research environment with the research focus on aware intelligent systems. The subject expertise in the department is in machine learning, data mining, signal analysis, mechatronics, and digital service innovation. Mining of sensor data streams and medical records, big data analytics, self-monitoring, and deviation detection are examples of areas of particular interest for us.

The department has a very good track record of doing research in close collaboration with the Swedish industry and public sector. Recently, the department has established a very close collaboration with Halland Hospital, a hospital being on the front edge of applying a data driven approach to make the healthcare more efficient and robust. Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School are amongst collaborators in selected research projects. The department has about 30 MSEK annual research budget, with 14-17 PhD students and about 30 researchers with PhDs. The department hosts the Centre for Applied Intelligent Systems Research (CAISR). Principal duties
Leading and doing high international quality research in data mining, which entails high quality publications, actively seeking external research funding, participation in and development of collaborations with national and international partners, supervision of PhD students, and teaching. The applicant is expected to contribute to the development of the research environment in terms of both research and education.

The current data mining research in CAISR is outlined in the annual report (referred to above) and descriptions of new projects (http://islab.hh.se/mediawiki/SeMI). Besides this, we started collaboration with national health care providers, looking at how data mining can be used to improve the health care services. A very close collaboration with Halland Hospital, a hospital being on the front edge of applying a data driven approach to make the healthcare more efficient and robust, has been established. Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School affiliates collaborate with Region Halland in research projects. We are looking for a person open to both theoretical and applied research. Interacting with external partners, both the business and the public sector, will be a substantial part of the role.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a good record of original research work and documented teaching abilities. The main emphasis in the assessment of the applicant is on scientific skills, research productivity and pedagogical skills. Skills in developing and leading projects will be judged as being of high value. To qualify for the position you should have a doctoral degree in information technology or equivalent. You should have experience of and be successful in carrying out teaching and research in the special field of the position. Experience in research projects is meriting, as well as publishing internationally and seeking and obtaining external funding for research. It is also meriting if you have done research on themes that are linked to CAISRs research focus. You should be self-motivated, have the ability to cooperate with others.

Assessment criteria

For employment as senior lecturer the following assessment criteria are in place:

  • Ability to develop, lead and carry out research of the high international quality. 
  • Ability to collaborate with other researchers within academia and industry. 
  • Ability to attract external research funding. 
  • Ability to develop courses on different academic levels and to carry out high-quality teaching.
