Halmstad University adds value, drives innovation and prepares people and society for the future. Since the beginning in 1983, innovation and collaboration with society have characterized the University's education and research. The research is internationally reputable and is largely conducted in a multidisciplinary manner within the University's two focus areas: Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities. The University has a wide range of education with many popular study programes. The campus is modern and well-equipped, and is situated close to both public transportation and the city center.

School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability
The University consists of four interdisciplinary academies and the current position is located at the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). Here you get to work in a research and educational environment with a focus on sustainable development and entrepreneurship. The school trains future economists, engineers, environmental scientists and biologists. The school has approximately 120 employees and consists of four departments, the department of Construction and Energy Engineering, the department of Business Studies, the department of Environmental and Biosciences and the department of Engineering and Innovation. FIH offers education at the undergraduate and advanced level, as well as doctoral education in the field of Innovation Sciences. The research is multidisciplinary and often takes place in co-production with other actors.

The post doctoral candidate will carry out research, both independently and in collaboration with other members of the functional surfaces research group at the School for Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). The person is also expected to develop their pedagogical competence and take part in teaching and supervision up to 20% of the duty.

International and national future industry expect to introduce bio and recycling plastics in products increasingly. One of the specific needs and challenges is related to quality assurance, (mainly surfaces and material properties) and the connection to functional properties and manufacturing control. Surface quality assurance has for a long time been a recognized research topic at FIH and the applicant is expected to continue developing technologies and strategies for quality control of functional surfaces for polymer and wood applications. The candidate will be part of building up a research team, focused on surface quality, that will form the base for the next generation of functional wood surfaces for various applications. 

Life-long learning/re- and up-skilling is also a research topic for future industries to enable the workforce to develop and adopt new skills, especially in digital manufacturing, including the AM area. Industry 4.0 and 5.0 are commonly known terms that refer to the transformation of today’s industry to tomorrow's future industry. The applicant will be part of the researcher-led team at FIH, together with 13 Swedish Universities, to develop and research concepts for up-skilling in Digital manufacturing as knowledge transfer from Academia to society. Here, one of the main tasks would be to participate in running the up-skilling programmes.

Finally, the recruited person is expected to participate in teaching and supervision of thesis projects for bachelor's and master's level students.

The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in Production Engineering or in a closely related field.

A postdoc position requires that the doctoral degree was awarded within three years of the application deadline.

Further requirements:

  • Published scientific work related to functional surface topography and textures, as well as the connection to manufacturing and function, or closely related to this area.
  • A publication track record in the area of surface topography and textures in Additive manufacturing. 
  • Experience from research in collaboration with industrial partners
  • Oral and written proficiency in English

It is meriting to show:

  • Documented teaching experience and development of education
  • Experience in the process of writing research project applications
  • Experience of research in collaboration with automotive and life science industry

We looking for a dynamic and curious person who can take independent responsibility and work in teams with colleagues and industrial partners.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. 

Salary is to be settled by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.
