Recent growth in the research activities and the well-established educational programs of the School of Information Technology (ITE) is enabling a significant expansion. In 2017 the total research expenditures where over 67 MSEK and the school had over 800 students. Over the next two years, the School will grow significantly.

Description

Appointment is intended to contribute to the research activities of the School of Information Technology (ITE) at Halmstad University. Appointment may be made either as Associate Professor (in Swedish Universitetslektor) or Professor depending on experience and qualifications. The appointment is a permanent and full-time.

General Duties

Research Duties - The appointed professor will lead the development of the High-Frequency Electronics at Halmstad University, especially circuit design for microwave applications such as radar and novel mobile telephony applications. The ideal research portfolio is one that strengthens the university in the profile areas of Smart Mobility and Healthcare Innovation, and will be in areas of interest to national industrial partners. Day to day activities will include representing the area internally and externally as well as connecting it productively with other areas, mentoring junior faculty, doctoral students, developing and carrying out externally funded research activities. Research will continue the development of the Electronics Center Halland (ECH) EMF measurement center, including maturing existing industrial partnerships and developing new collaborations. Research activities are also expected to building a wealth of productive collaborations with local, regional, national, and international actors.

Educational Duties - The appointed professor will guide the development of existing and new programs relating to Electronics, and contribute to teaching and mentoring of students at the undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral levels. A recently introduced Civilingenjör program offers opportunities for developing courses in Electronics design, Modelling and simulations, Opto- and high-frequency electronics, EMC, and advanced measurement techniques. At the graduate levels, advanced courses in antenna design, radar, and radio frequency analog circuit design will be developed. Other opportunities at the Masters level include courses on applied electromagnetics, semiconductor devices, and wireless embedded systems. Finally, it is expected that the Professor will contribute to strengthening the connection between current needs of regional industrial partners and research opportunities available for Masters and undergraduate students. This can include the development of commissioned education courses in the area of electronics.

General Qualifications

The position requires having a PhD in Electronics or related area, and preferably qualification at the Docent level, and an established track record of research, education and collaboration in the area of High Frequency Electronics. The ideal candidate will have a broad interest in research and education in radio frequency CMOS analog circuit design and Microwave Electronics. Breadth of interests is appreciated, especially having interests spanning silicon technologies to beam forming. Expertise bio-electronics, laser/nano technologies, and wearable and implantable electronics are also desirable.

In addition to the qualifications statement above, assessment will include three components, namely, research, education, and collaboration, and will follow Halmstad University’s guidelines for appointment and promotion. Qualified candidates are expected to demonstrate sustained excellence in these components over the last five years. The applicant is encouraged to highlight in their cover letter their strengths in each of these components, and to address all of them in their presentation of their experience and plans.

Specific Duties and Qualifications for Each Position

In addition to the general duties and qualifications outlined above:

  • An Associate Professor position requires demonstrated leadership and administrative skill as well as collaboration with industry and outreach.
  • A Professor position requires, in addition to the specific qualification for Associate Professor, experience in supervision of doctoral students, significant experience in developing and leading externally funded research projects, and significant experience in the development of educational courses and/or programs.

Salary

Salary is to be determined by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.
