The School of Information Technology (ITE)
Halmstad University’s School of Information Technology (ITE) is a renowned multi-disciplinary institution with around 155 employees from 20 different countries. ITE is internationally recognised for its applied research and collaborative initiatives, focusing on smart technology and its practical applications. 

Within ITE, our students and researchers engage in diverse areas of study, including electronics, AI, information-driven healthcare, autonomous vehicles, social robotics, and digital design. We offer a comprehensive range of educational programmes, ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels, as well as professional development opportunities. 

Research is conducted within the University’s research programmes, especially Information Driven Care (IDC), Re-Imagining Future Smart Living – beyond the Living Lab (REBEL), Learning in a Digitalised Society (LeaDS) and the Future Industry Research Programme (FIRP). 
ITE is home to Leap for Life, an innovation centre for information-driven care, as well as the Electronics Centre in Halmstad (ECH), a collaborative space for electronic development.

About the role
As a researcher with us, you are not only part of a committed team – you are also a key person in creating and driving new research projects. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues, social partners, industry and academia. We are looking for someone who is curious and passionate about creating new collaborations and projects that contribute to the development of research and real-world applications.

You are expected to be proactive in:
• Identifying new research opportunities and seeking external research funding.
• Developing and leading multidisciplinary research projects in collaboration with other researchers and partners from the public sector and industry.
• Building and strengthening research collaborations both internally and externally.
• Contributing to a strong sense of team and a shared drive in the college.

In addition to research and project management, there is the opportunity to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in our programs, for example in computer science, applied AI or informatics. The recruited researcher is expected to participate in supervising degree theses for students at bachelor's and master's level, as well as being a supervisor for doctoral students. The recruited researcher is expected to teach 20% and conduct research 80%

What we offer

Our team is at the forefront of machine learning and information-driven care, working on issues such as patient progression, predictive models, trustworthy AI, open data, ethics and cybersecurity. We combine applied research with technology transfer and innovation, and our results are disseminated through close collaboration with our partners, testbeds, demonstrators and scientific publications.

We are now looking for researchers who want to strengthen our team and help expand our research activities by creating new collaborations with regions, municipalities and the local industrial ecosystem.

Qualifications
Associate senior lecturer is a career-development position, the purpose of which is: “for the teacher to have the opportunity to develop research autonomy and acquire the scholarly and teaching qualifications required for eligibility for appointment as a senior lecturer” (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a). 

A person qualified for appointment as an associate senior lecturer is a person who has been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research expertise. Primary consideration should be given to a person who has been awarded a PhD or achieved the equivalent expertise within five years of the deadline for application for employment as an associate senior lecturer. However, a person who has been awarded a PhD or achieved the equivalent expertise at an earlier date may also be considered if there are exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances are sick leave, parental leave or other similar circumstances. 

In order to be promoted to senior lecturer after employment as an associate senior lecturer, it is required to have completed higher education teaching training or that the applicant has acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. 

As an applicant, you should have:

  • PhD with relevant experience Artificial Intelligence/Data Mining/Machine Learning/ Information Technology or a related subject.
  • Ability to conduct research of high international quality in biometrics
  • Documented experience from research in collaboration with industrial partners
  • Ability to conduct high-quality teaching and to develop courses at different levels
  • Experience in supervision of master / PhD students
  • Ability to attract external funding
  • Dynamism, curiosity and willingness to address opportunities and challenges with AI, machine learning and biometrics
  • The overall scientific production should be extensive in high-quality research journals.
  • The ability to read, write and speak English fluently at a formal level.

 

The applicant should have a strong curiosity and drive to create new research projects and collaborations. Ability to work independently and lead projects, but also to be a team player who contributes to a strong sense of community.

You must be self-motivated, have good collaboration skills, be structured and be able to inspire others. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability as evidenced by references from previous employers.
