The School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability 
The University consists of four interdisciplinary academies and the current position is located at the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). Here you get to work in a research and educational environment with a focus on sustainable development and entrepreneurship. The school trains future economists, engineers, environmental scientists and biologists. The school has approximately 120 employees and consists of four departments, the department of Construction and Energy Engineering, the department of Business Studies, the department of Environmental and Biosciences and the department of Engineering and Innovation. FIH offers education at the undergraduate and advanced level, as well as doctoral education in the field of Innovation Sciences. The research is multidisciplinary and often takes place in co-production with other actors.

Description

We are searching for a postdoctoral candidate with a strong background in qualitative studies to research the managerial aspects of the cutting-edge AIR (Artificial Intelligence in Radiology) project. This project aims to co-develop an algorithm to assist radiologists in assessing lung disease over time. It involves Brazilian and Swedish actors in the healthcare field and includes members from organizations such as InRad (the Institute of Radiology), CERTI foundation (research institute), Philips Healthcare, Capitainer AB, and Halmstad University. The research will focus on understanding responses to paradoxical tensions across ethical, legal, and technical principles for developing a trustworthy AI solution.

As a postdoctoral fellow, your role will involve designing and conducting research within the AIR project framework. While data scientists develop the algorithm, you interview and observe the interplay between healthcare professionals, engineers and legal advisors in solving emerging tensions. Additionally, you'll collaborate with colleagues from different faculties at Halmstad University and scholars from the University of São Paulo, expanding your international network.

The postdoctoral fellow will have the exciting opportunity to gather empirical data from leading Brazilian hospitals, MedTech companies, and research institutes involved in the AIR project. This data, collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, will play a crucial role in exploring the collaborative development of an innovative algorithm.

Your responsibilities will mainly include, but not limited to:

• Carrying out a literature review
• Planning and conducting interviews in Sweden and Brazil
• Engaging in observational fieldwork and collecting secondary data
• Developing original and practical knowledge for trustworthy AI
• Publishing in internationally recognized conferences and journals
• Teaching and supervising students in Engineering and Innovation courses

You will be supervised by Dr. Fábio Gama (Halmstad University) and MD Vinícius Guirado (University of São Paulo).

Qualifications
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate, proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Primarily should those who have graduated no more than three years before the last application date, be considered. Under special circumstances, leave due to illness, parental leave, or similar circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

For appointment as a postdoctoral researcher, the following assessment criteria will be applied:

Requirements:

• PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Information Systems, Healthcare or Innovation Management
• Documented experience in conducting qualitative research in a relevant domain area for the AIR project
• Good communication skills and an excellent command of spoken and written English, as well as Portuguese.  

Meritorious:

• Experience in multidisciplinary projects involving healthcare organizations (e.g., firms and hospitals)
• Good communication skills, involving for example to take responsibility for communication within a project, with collaborators and to communicate research results and impact to society.
• Experience in teaching or supervision at undergraduate or advanced level

Emphasis will be placed on personal competency. That involves showing engagement in the research area, the project, and other stakeholders. It is of importance to communicate well with people from different fields and organisations. 

Salary
Salary is to be settled by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.
