Högskolan i Halmstad, Akademin för informationsteknologi

This position has a special focus on application development frameworks for heterogeneous many-core architectures. The position is placed within the Centre for Research on Embedded Systems (CERES), see: http://ceres.hh.se/ and http://www.hh.se/ceres, at the School of Information Technology. Starting date is March 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Background
The position is funded by the “Towards Next Generation Embedded Systems: Utilizing Parallelism and Reconfigurability” project, which is a Indo-Swedish Collaboration project funded by Vinnova, Sweden and Department of Science and Technology (DST), India.

The technical objectives of our research agenda are to:

- identify and characterize key properties (performance, programmability, flexibility and determinism) for compute devices in the embedded domain,
- develop methodologies for efficient design of applications that cater to a diverse set of user constraints (such as performance, energy, area foot-print and cost) and are independent of the target implementation,
- develop architectural solutions that will provide a natural support for smart parallelism and execution schedulability in applications and
- validate the design flow with a diverse set of real-world use-cases.

Key-concepts involved to achieve these objectives include: domain specific languages; parallel compilation frameworks; heterogeneous manycore architectures; and stream processing.

Working Environment
The Ph.D. student will be performing research in a very vigorous and international research environment at the Centre for Research on Embedded Systems (CERES) at Halmstad University. The research project will be carried out in collaboration with the Swedish and Indian project partners, including groups in Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), Adarate Systems, Amrita University, Texas Instruments, and Maxim Integrated. The candidate should be willing to travel to India for a few weeks during the course of the project.

Qualifications
The suitable candidate has recently received, or is expecting to finalize within a few months, a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related fields. Particular strength or experience in parallel computer architectures and parallel programming is very welcome.
