The School of Information Technology

Halmstad University consists of four interdisciplinary Schools and the current position is located at the School of Information Technology (ITE). ITE is a multicultural school with around 130 employees from 20 different countries. It is a strong research and education environment, with focus on smart technology and its applications. Students and researchers are working with everything from AI and information driven care to autonomous vehicles, social robotics and digital design. ITE offers education on all levels, from undergraduate to PhD education, plus education for professional. An innovation centre for information driven care called Leap for Life is connected to ITE, as well as a collaboration arena for electronic development, Electronics Centre in Halmstad (ECH).

Description

At the department of Computing and Electronics for Real-Time and Embedded Systems (CERES), there is a need for a senior lecturer (universitetslektor) in cybersecurity or a closely related area who can strengthen, drive and develop the department's education and research in the field.

Duties include teaching in practical and theoretical courses at both bachelor and master level, research, and administration. The proportion of research will be dependent on the applicant's ability to contribute to existing research projects and ability to apply for research grants.

Specific courses that need to be staffed are within existing training programs: mainly courses in Computer Networking. Courses given to individual organizations as commissioned training: OSINT - Open-source intelligence, KCB - Complex cybercrime, Python for forensics and Cybersecurity for operations technicians.

Qualification

"A person qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer is, except in disciplines in the fine, applied or performing arts, someone who has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctorate or has the corresponding research competence or other professional expertise that is valuable for the post’s subject matter and duties." (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 section 4)

"The assessment criteria for appointment as a senior lecturer must be the degree of expertise required as qualification for employment. As much attention must be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of other qualifying criteria stated in the first paragraph above. Each higher education institution otherwise determines the assessment criteria that must be applied to the appointment of a senior lecturer."(Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 section 4)

Scientific skills:

  • A doctoral degree in computer science or a closely related area. 
  • A good level of scientific production in terms of scope, originality, breadth and impact on the subject area.

Teaching skills:

  • Proven experience in planning, conducting, examining and evaluating teaching, including supervision of theses or dissertations.
  • Completed training in higher education pedagogy and experience in educational development work.

Teaching experience and research profile and in cybersecurity together with an ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary environments is a requirement. Fluency in English is required for this position.

Strong merits include

  • Cisco and Palo Alto instructor certification;
  • previous experience in tutoring and developing practical lessons in the field;
  • proven interest in the field;
  • proven ability to work with people from different disciplines, both in academia and industry.

You need to be able to work in a structured way and plan for the long term, both independently and with the rest of the team. You must be willing to take responsibility for development processes as the field of digital forensics and cyber security is constantly evolving. We also see fluent Swedish (ability to teach and communicate) as a merit.

Proven experience in leadership, administrative skills and interaction with the wider community is an asset.

For employment as a senior lecturer, the applicant is required to have completed a course in higher education pedagogy, to have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, or to undertake to complete a course in higher education pedagogy.

Salary
Salary is to be settled by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.

The employment is a permanent employment and can begin with a probationary period.
