Description

At the department of Computing and Electronics for Real-Time and Embedded Systems (CERES), there is a need for an associate senior lecturer within the field of high-frequency electronics, specifically in this case geared towards automotive industry collaborations and radar signal processing. The position is, to a large extent, directly needed in the Vinnova funded project RadCom. This position will also enable further commissioned research within automotive radar, which several industry partners have shown interest in. Further this position will strengthen internal collaborations with a preferred candidate with experience from machine learning on radar sensor data.

Research topics within RadCom will include:

  • Modelling of non-linear effects in transmitter and receiver
  • Antenna simulations and experiments; multiple antennas, and spatial scheduling and spatial filtering
  • Radio/Radar channel simulations and experiments

The recruited person will initially teach 20% and research 80%. The associate senior lecturer will be researching in a highly international research environment at the department connected to radar signal processing, especially geared towards automated target identification based on machine learning. Typical applications for radar to develop would be detection, classification, target tracking and waveform design. The aim is to build a framework for continued research in several application areas such as health, automotive, process industry, mining, agriculture, etc.
The position is for the first two years fully funded. Beyond the first two years, the proportion of research that will be included in the position is dependent on the applicant's ability to contribute to existing research projects and ability to apply for external research grants.

Qualification

Qualifications required for employment as an associate senior lecturer (biträdande universitetslektor) are doctoral degrees or corresponding scientific competence. The doctoral degree should not be older than five years when this position's application time has finished, eligible exceptions might apply. The doctoral degree subject should be within high-frequency electronics, applied electromagnetics or a closely related field.

The scientific production is expected to be published in high-quality, peer-reviewed research journals and conferences. Documented experience from innovation, research and development in an industrial environment is also a strong merit. The applicant should share the value that diversity and equality among researchers and teachers brings higher quality to research and education.

The overall assessment of the candidate's work will primarily focus on its quality and, to a lesser extent, its scope.

Scientific skills:

  • a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree
  • a good level of scientific production in terms of scope, originality, breadth and impact on the subject area.

Teaching skills:

  • proven experience in planning, conducting, examining and evaluating teaching, including supervision of theses or dissertations
  • completed training in higher education pedagogy and experience in educational development work

Subject related skills:

Research profile and teaching experience in high-frequency electronics and embedded systems together with an ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary environments is a requirement. Proven experience in leadership, administrative skills and interaction with the wider community is an asset. Research with a clear link to one of the two profile areas of the university, Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities, is desirable.

Salary

Salary is to be settled by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.

Application

Applications should be sent via Halmstad University's recruitment system Varbi (see link on this page).

The application package shall consist of:
1) a cover letter stating the purpose of the application and a brief statement of why you believe that your goals are well-matched with the goals of this position, together with a description of future research plans

2) an attested CV that includes at least
- a list of previous degrees, with dates and institutions, transcripts for higher-education studies until most recent available
- a description of previous work experience and, if possible, a list of publications with links to online copies of the most important publications

3) contact information for at least three references.
