Halmstad university consists of four interdisciplinary schools. The current position is located at the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH). Background
Data-driven management is pivoted by the fast development of digital technologies and significant demand for effective decision support systems. When driving decision-making, and despite the volume of data gathered through digital technologies, managerial decision-making is still primarily based on people's intuition and experience, rationale schemes, or both. Future management will combine known and used data sources (business requirements, system and technical requirements, stakeholder preferences, and requirements interdependencies) with aggregated user data. Hence, new data management methods are needed to synthesize information and provide constructive insights and recommendations to managers.

Description
We seek a PhD candidate to conduct research on the advantages that digital technologies bring to managerial decision-making. The project will focus on how data may drive managerial practices and improve decision-making in the different areas of a business, i.e., product development (requirement product engineering), processes (industrial monitoring), business models (value creation), and value chain (product traceability).  The research includes collaboration with other scientists within the field of Business, Sustainability, and Innovation from Halmstad University and local industry partners. 

The selected PhD candidate will be responsible for conducting research within projects linked to sustainable business models for farmers and to infrastructure such as water management with a focus on sustainable ecosystems. Research and development are carried out at collaboration labs (living labs) with a focus on collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs, government representatives and students.

The research is linked to several research projects in the area, which includes collaboration with local, regional and national partners as well as international partners. Research will be carried out within the framework of the research projects, which also includes follow-up, reporting and reporting of project initiatives, such as scientific contributions and articles. In addition to project-related assignments, the doctoral students will study a number of courses at doctoral level within the framework of the research subject Innovation Science.

The employment also include teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time, which, among other things, connects to collaboration in innovation to strengthen the education and the connection to industrial collaboration and research. Furthermore, the doctoral students will contribute to new initiatives regarding the development of courses and research projects in collaboration with external parties, such as research applications and development projects. Development projects in educational activities can relate to new opportunities with the help of digital aids.

This is a full-time position available as soon as possible. The employment refers to postgraduate education up to the licentiate degree with the possibility of extension until the doctoral degree provided that admission to the doctoral degree is complete, satisfactory study results have been achieved and that continued funding is available.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a two-year master’s degree in industrial management or a related discipline as well as experience of working in an academic environment with conducting surveys and analyzes of qualitative as well as quantitative studies. Teaching experience is an advantage, especially at the advanced level in the field of industrial management.

It is desirable that applicants have practical and documented experience of leading the work with a focus on collaboration between industry and higher education. Furthermore, it is an advantage if applicants have experience of research studies, for example PhD courses, participation in research projects, having applied for grants in competition with others, etc. Practical experience of implementing innovation projects, such as development of new product / service solutions is a desirable. When it comes to research, it is an advantage to have knowledge in technology development and business models.

Excellent organisational skills, analytical problem solving and organizational abilities are required. Prior practical experience from industry is a plus. Another merit is experience of working with technology development in terms of ICT solutions to build sustainable systems for analysis and measurement of water quality. It is also important that applicants have social skills and a good ability to work together to be able to interact with different partners. The applicant also needs to have knowledge of the university's internal and administrative system, as some tasks will involve both education and digitization of education.

Only persons who are being admitted, or already have been admitted, to doctoral studies at an institution of higher education may be appointed doctoral students. (The Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, § 3). The student’s ability to benefit from doctoral studies will be taken into account when we make the appointment. Salary
Doctoral students are employees of the University and paid a salary according to a uniform salary scale, adjusted in relation to the progress in education.
