Recent growth in the research activities as the well-established educational programs of the School of Information Technology (ITE) is enabling a significant expansion. In 2017 the total research expenditures where over 67 MSEK and the school had over 800 students. Over the next four years, the School will grow significantly. This announcement is for five full-time Assistant Professor or Associate Professor positions. Applicants are sought in the areas of Computer Science, Digital Forensics, Electronics, and Mathematics.
Appointments for each of the five positions may be made either at the Assistant Professor (in Swedish, Biträdande Lektor) or Associate Professor (tenured or untenured, in Swedish, Universitetslektor or Tidsbegränsad Universitetslektor) levels, depending on experience and qualifications. An Assistant Professor position is a 4-6 year initial contract followed by review for tenure; and Associate Professor (tenured or untenured) is from May 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The department greatly values equality, diversity, and being a supportive and inclusive environment. Currently, we have too few women. In case of equal qualification, underrepresented groups will be prioritized.
General Duties
The selected candidates for all positions will have the responsibility to conduct research and teach in the vigorous, international, and rapidly growing research environment at the School of ITE at Halmstad University. As a faculty member you are expected to take primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of research and of teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
General Qualification
The University has identified two priority areas as being of strategic importance and that will be the primary focus of strategic investments, namely, Health Innovation and Smart and Connected Communities (the latter including autonomous driving and smart mobility). Priority will therefore be given to candidates with an established track record and interest in these areas, and that have an interest in strengthening the University in these areas.
All positions require a doctoral degree, as well as active engagement in research and education over the last five years. Furthermore, qualified candidates should demonstrate sustained excellence over the last five years in at least one of, and demonstrate strength and interest in most of the following aspects of academic activity:
1) Conducting and publishing research;
2) Developing and leading externally funded research projects;
3) Teaching introductory courses (special requirement: for many introductory undergraduate courses at Halmstad University, this requires teaching in Swedish);
4) Mentoring and supervision of doctoral, Masters, and undergraduate students;
5) Teaching in collaboration with industry (for example, through developing student projects jointly with industry on a continual basis);
6) Research in collaboration with industry (for example, through the joint development of new projects or technologies).

Regulations
According to the Higher Education Ordinance 4 Chapter 12a §, the post of Assistant Professor (Biträdande Lektor) is a qualifying appointment with the purpose of providing the employee with a possibility to develop her or his independence as a researcher and to obtain merits that can lead to a competence for another post with higher eligibility requirements. An Assistant Professor shall mainly be engaged in research and research project development, and shall also have teaching responsibilities. Research and teaching levels are coordinated annually with the department. The post is for four to six years, determined at the start of employment. After this period, an Assistant Professor may be promoted to a post with conditional tenure as Associate Professor (Universitetslektor). To qualify for this promotion, the Assistant Professor must have undertaken independent research; taken part in the supervision of doctoral students; and, through participation in and development of, the education has reached competence up to a docent’s level.
