As a part of a strategic investment, Halmstad University (HU) has opened a search for a prestigious and exciting named position (chair) of Bennet Chair, a full professor in the area of health management and economics.  The establishment of this chair represents the commitment of Halmstad University to develop a leadership in Health Innovation, with a focus on Co-created care improvement. The candidate is expected to lead the university in the next steps of the development of the Health Innovation profile. The goal is to advance knowledge in the theoretical and methodological basis of implementing and evaluating health innovations from the value-based and co-creation perspective. Research would include empirical assessment of new interventions and strategies to analyze implementation processes, outcomes, value and cost-effectiveness of interventions and programs in healthcare. The area of Co-created care improvement aims to integrate the tradition of health economic evaluation, co-creation and business model innovation into the current research portfolio of Health Innovation.

The funds for this chair are provided by Carl Bennet AB, who funds research at selected universities and institutions in Sweden. These research efforts are being made to build and strengthen knowledge environments in both national and international perspectives.

Halmstad University (HU) is a workplace for learning, development, research and collaboration. HU has approximately 5000 full-year students and about 600 employees, working in education, research and administrative support. The university is a node for development and dissemination of knowledge, an “innovation-driving university" with a recognized position as a collaborative partner with firms, communities and public organizations. The university consists of four schools. All host innovation arenas that develop and connect education, research and collaboration with our stakeholders.

The size and organization of the university facilitates transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation across subject and area boundaries. Our Health Innovation profile area focuses on the development and implementation of digital services for a more personalized and proactive care. Two areas for research and collaboration have been identified, where HU is particularly well-placed to make a contribution: 1) improving the use of data in health care and 2) improving the capacity to implement and adopt new solutions to achieve more personalized care with higher quality and more optimal use of resources.

The position is a Bennet chair

Through the establishment of the Bennet Chair HU is able to develop a platform comprising researchers from two research environments – the Center for Research on Welfare, Health and Sports (CVHI), with expertise in intervention and implementation studies related to health, public health and healthcare, and the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Learning research (CIEL), with expertise in the area of innovation, including health innovation management and organizational change is currently being established. Researchers have expertise in intervention and implementation studies that focus on innovation processes, and health and quality of life outcomes, as well as in collaborative methods for health innovations in healthcare.

An important part of the environment is postgraduate education in health and lifestyle and in innovation sciences. Increased qualified and integrated research and postgraduate education is a basis for the professorship.

Responsibilities

The Bennet professor is expected to work in close collaboration with CVHI and CIEL and relevant education programs. These include support and coordinate the strategic work of the research environments in profiling, quality assurance and strengthening inter- and multi-disciplinary research. Applying for strategically relevant research funding is an important task, and to initiate research and projects with collaboration partners such as health care, municipalities and different businesses is expected. The professor is expected to participate in education at mainly postgraduate level.

It is also expected that the holder of this chair and the research group is able to interact closely with the Embedded and Intelligent Systems (EIS) research environment where significant research is conducted on artificial intelligence and healthcare improvement. 

Qualifications

Applicants should be qualified as a professor in a subject relevant to the field and goals of the position, experienced in research related to the health innovation field e.g., health science, health economics, innovation, business administration, industrial management.

In addition, a successful candidate is expected to have good communication skills in English and able to communicate in Swedish within a few years. You are an energetic, analytical and structured individual who drives processes in goals and has a genuine interest to support the environment in its development. You have proven ability to develop a trusting and good cooperation with both internal and external actors.

The candidate is also expected to have experience in initiation and leading of independent research initiatives, have a strong publishing track record, experiences of leading a research team, the ability to plan and lead research and to communicate research to the surrounding society.

An eligible candidate should have a record demonstrating teaching expertise through pedagogic development work and/or course development and have documented experience from principal supervision of doctoral students encompassing a substantial part of the doctoral students’ studies. Completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Scientific/scholarly skills should be documented and include grants awarded, scientific background, scientific production, national and international research contacts, expert assignments, opponent or examination board commissions etc. Examples of documentation are theses, articles, reviews, publications (including work in progress), national and international prizes and awards, assessment of associate Professor (docent) or full Professor qualifications, certificates and credentials pertaining to scientific skills as well as doctoral and master’s theses the candidate/applicant has supervised to completion. Pedagogical skills should be documented and include pedagogical background, the applicant’s pedagogical ethos/approach/philosophy, how the applicant/candidate works with his/her and the students’ learning development and contributes to pedagogical development etc. Examples of documentation are grades/credentials from courses in teaching and learning in higher education and other pedagogical education and courses in supervision, evaluations, self-assessments, pedagogical prizes, course and conference programs, teaching material, certificates and assessments of pedagogical skills etc. Leadership and administrative skills should be well documented through certificates and/or grades. These may also be complemented with references. Collaboration with the surrounding community should be well documented through certificates and/ or grades.
