Halmstad University is an exciting place of work for learning, development and research in constant interaction with its surroundings. The department of Student Affairs has a staff of 48 and is responsible for all support to education and to students, both centrally and for the Schools.

The department pursues study and career guidance, pedagogical support, international exchanges and preventative healthcare. Also at the department is everything to do with study administration and documentation, such as the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test, admissions, scheduling, the coordination of examinations, credit transfers, course syllabi, student registry and qualifications. Another part of the department is the Service Centre where staff, students and the general public are received and their enquiries addressed.  

Work assignments

We are seeking an international student coordinator to work mainly with the School of Information Technology. The School has approximately 200 international students. The position is temporary, from May 1, 2019 until dec 31, 2019.

The work involves meeting and welcoming international students and helping them with issues concerning their studies at Halmstad University. This includes explaining how studies in Sweden work, giving support in how to carry out and write study assignments as well as answering other questions from students. Also included is guiding students to the right place for other issues, such as to Servicecenter, the department of Student Affairs and Director of Studies, but also to external contacts such as healthcare services, the Migration Board, Student Union, the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency, etc.

In addition, tasks may include working together with Student Affairs on the recruitment of international students through trade fairs, webinars and meetings at the University as well as travel abroad for marketing purposes. You would have to answer questions on studies in Sweden from presumptive students as well as manage the introduction of new international students. The follow-up of studies and suggestions for improvement are part of your job. You will also plan and carry out company visits based on the wishes of the programme coordinator as well as be of assistance in other company contacts.

You will have your employment at and receive daily work management from the department of Student Affairs, but will work in close cooperation with the School’s programme coordinators. Most of the time will be spent with students at the School of Information Technology.

In joint consultation with the management of Student Affairs and the School, other assignments may be allocated to you. 

Qualifications

The applicant should have:

  • previous experience relevant to working with international students including support and communication.
  • good knowledge of conditions for studying in Sweden.
  • experience of international education at university level, from own education or previous work
  • a Master’s degree or equivalent education in a subject relevant for the work.
  • a very good command of spoken and written English.
  • good computer skills, e.g. be able to manage webinars.
  • good collaborative skills.

The position requires that you take initiative and are solution-driven and that you take responsibility for your work assignments and anchor these and their execution with Student Affairs.

It is meritorious if you have experience of having worked or studied at Halmstad University and have knowledge of Swedish.
