Högskolan i Halmstad, Akademin för informationsteknologi

Recent growth in the research activities and the well-established educational programs of the School of Information Technology (ITE) is enabling a significant expansion. In 2017 the total research expenditures where over 67 MSEK and the school had over 800 students. Over the next three years, the School will grow significantly.

This announcement is for a permanent full-time position at the level of Full Professor in the area of Information Technology, with focus on Artificial Intelligence and IT-Forensics.

Principal Duties

The principal duties for this position are to strengthen the School’s research and education activities in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (including machine learning and data mining) and to lead the development of the School’s research and education activities in the area of IT-Forensics.

Strengthening research activities in AI includes publishing high quality peer-reviewed articles, developing a portfolio of external research funding, participating in and developing collaborations with national and international partners, supervision of PhD students, and teaching. The appointed professor is expected to contribute to the development of the research environment in terms of both research and education. The current research in AI within the CAISR KK profile is outlined in the annual report (see http://hh.se/caisr) and descriptions of new projects (e.g., http://islab.hh.se/mediawiki/SeMI). In addition to what is described in the report, we have started collaboration with national health care providers, looking at how data mining can be used to improve the health care services. The ideal candidate will be open to both theoretical and applied research. Interacting with external partners will be a substantial part of the role.

Leading the development of research and education in the area of IT-Forensics will build on our existing strengths in IT-Forensics education in a number of ways, including, strengthening connections to relevant authorities, establishing research activities in synergistic areas (especially using AI) and strengthening connections to existing research areas in the School, expanding the educational programs in IT-Forensics to different levels, investigating new teaching methods including ones that make more extensive use of digital technologies, and increasing society’s awareness of the growing power of digital technologies to support law enforcement, crime prevention, and increasing justice.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree, as well as a track record of active engagement in research, education, and collaboration over the last five years. This includes having a good record of original research work and documented teaching abilities in areas relating to the Principal Duties outlined above. Skills in developing and leading projects will be judged as being of high value. You should have experience of and be successful in carrying out teaching and research in the special field of the position. Experience in research projects is desirable, as well as publishing internationally and seeking and obtaining external funding for research, as is research on themes linked to CAISRs research focus.

It is expected that the appointed professor is self-motivated and collaborates effectively with others.
